We connect as humans, not as concepts

It can be hard to find your own voice

when you’ve always been told not to have one.

Until very recently, we (women in particular) were actively coached out of talking about anything personal in a corporate space.

We were made to believe that people wouldn't take us seriously, or value our ideas, if we somehow made reference to the person who exists outside of work.

But those rules do not exist on the stage.

If you are in front of an audience speaking on behalf of your company it is critical that you make it personal.

Because making a talk personal doesn’t mean it’s about you, it means showing why it’s important to you.

We connect as humans, not as concepts.

It doesn’t matter how world-changing an idea is, if you remove YOU from your talk, it becomes incredibly hard to engage your audience.

Humans are hard-wired to seek out personal connections & relationships, and we find them through stories and shared experiences.

If you've been asked to speak it's because you've earned the stage. Show the audience why.

Your story is what forges connections with an audience not the product or idea your discussing.

Your story is powerful, don’t be afraid of it.
